Jumping Into The Dating Game? Here Are All The Deal Breakers You Should Know About

When you are dating someone or are looking for a partner there are certain things that you keep in mind while taking things forward. They may or may not be tailored to every person's likes and dislikes but overall there are certain things that can make or break a relationship.

Sure, for some there is a list including a sense of humour, empathy or even good looks. But what about the major deal breakers, the things that one just can not handle or can not tolerate or red flags that are hard to ignore no matter the excuses made?

Well, a dating app named QuackQuack studied 12,000 users ranging between 25 and 35, from tier 1 and tier 2 cities, and found out what are the non-negotiables for daters. One of the major non-negotiables revealed almost 24% of the daters above 30 will pass on a person based on their job and educational qualification. The survey result also showed that ignoring to mention these basics in your dating profile will also lead to more rejections.

But there is a lot more which is a deal breaker for daters and even though we do feel there can be a lot of additions and subtractions, these are pretty solid:

Age is not a main factor anymore.

Even though age is one of the major criteria for a lot of people, it isn't the most important thing anymore for many daters anymore. As per the survey, "Around 26% of women aged between 26 and 29 disclosed passing on men who were five years or older than them. In contrast, the survey shows that women above 30 are more likely to hit like on a man¡¯s profile, even if they are five to six years older."

"My boyfriend is six years older than I am and honestly, it is a great thing. He is much more experienced and mature. I like this much better," says 26-year-old Niharika.

Nobody likes a cheater

This one's a major deal breaker for some. According to the survey, 29% of men and women said infidelity is an absolute deal breaker. Many even mentioned how they will not even tolerate people who have cheated on their exes, because 'once a cheater, always a cheater.' Trust is basically the main pillar of a relationship and people who have broken that in the past don't see their relationship grow further.

"I had cheated on my ex to be with someone I genuinely loved. But the person I got into a relationship with was always insecure that I would cheat on her too because of what I did earlier. She could never trust me and ultimately broke up even though I never was unfaithful to her," Rohan* (name changed for privacy)

Nobody likes someone who gets jealous

A little bit of jealousy is fine. In fact, it shows that you care. But excessive jealousy can get a little too much. The survey mentioned how excessive jealousy was deemed a deal breaker by more than 37% of daters. Excessive jealousy can also turn into obsessive behaviour which can get much more serious later on in a relationship. It shows that the partner can get controlling.

"My boyfriend was very very jealous of me hanging out with my friends. Especially male friends. He made it so much of a big deal that I had to cut off with them otherwise we will always fight. I finally had to break up with him because I was left with no friends because of his attitude," says Nikki (name changed for privacy)

The same moral values are important

Even though differing moral values may be okay at the beginning of a relationship, it can be a deal breaker later. This can lead to conflicts, arguments and even a breakup. As per the survey, "34% of the daters from tier 1 and tier 2 cities said contradicting moral values and thought process is a deal breaker." People who don't understand another person's morals are also deal breakers.

"I was from a joint family and my GF was from a nuclear family. She never got the concept of actually chilling with the entire family and that's fine. But we used to fight a lot about me being with my cousins all the time. It finally ended our relationship," says Parth.

Definitely should not be an addict

Would you even like to date an alcoholic or a chain smoker? Well, looks like a lot of people would not appreciate that. A person who drinks or smokes a lot is a deal breaker for people. "The survey results show that 21% of people from tier 1 and 2 cities find addiction a non-negotiable while looking for a match."

'Situationships' are a big no-no

"On an obvious note, 39% of daters in QuackQuack mentioned genuine connections on dating apps are a huge turn-on." People want to be committed or have a genuine relationship,' People don't like casual relationships and want exclusivity.

"I don't like this situationship or friends-with-benefits thing. I am old school like that. I like being in a relationship and when someone is sure about exclusivity then I'm really into it," says Sunaina* (name changed for privacy)
