Age Is Just A Number! Survey Reveals How There Is Rise In Dating When It Comes To Seniors

With the rise in dating apps, technology and several options to find love, it is now noted how people of all ages are not shying away from finding their true soulmate. And yes, that includes the senior members of the society as well aka boomers.

Rise in seniors finding love

The boomers are now making sure that love does not need to be restricted. There can be several instances when one can be left alone or single at any stage of life. Before they thought letting it be the way it is should be opted due to several pressures and judgements from the society. Not just that, in many cases even family members go against the idea of seeing their senior loved finding someone else as embarrassing. Some latest movies such as Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani have highlighted that issue as well. But seniors now are realizing that tragedy or losing a partner due to any reason should not be the death of love or finding a second chance. It was noticed by the dating app QuackQuack that there is a rise in seniors on the app and more people are open to finding love through it.

"The online survey ran for three days among a total of 6,000 participants from metros and smaller cities. The survey participants ranged between 50 and 68 years; a majority of them are retired, and a portion of these daters are business owners. The survey results show the paradigm shift in societal attitudes towards love and romance in the later stages of life," adds the app.

What has the survey found?

Through the survey, it was found that there are several things seniors are looking at when it comes to dating. Obviously, the priorities and criteria are different when it comes to them. Here is what was found out:

They are breaking stereotypes

When it comes to retired individuals it is often expected of them to join a yoga club or gold or some leisure activity. They are not expected to find romance at that age. But let us admit it. Everyone wants love and at an age when one is growing old, the need for it is much more. However, for people above the age of 50, there is a lot of chatter in society against them wanting to find love. So, for seniors finding love on dating apps is a more private alternative.

Online dating is better for people from smaller cities

As per the survey, "34% of male daters from Tier 2 cities between the ages of 50 and 65 explained how online dating has turned out to be their saviour. 7% of these men are widowed, 9% divorced, and 18% never married. They disclosed the difficulties of dating in a small Indian city. Firstly, women of that age are under more pressure from society than men. Hence, finding a suitable partner with the same emotional maturity and freedom to choose love over societal stigma is the biggest challenge. But on dating apps, they stated, people can connect from any part of the country, and not just their locality. Plus, the facility to chat with a person for a while before taking it IRL allows these men ample time to evaluate if they are being duped."

People look for companionship over love

When it comes to women over the age of 50, it was noted that about 27% of them look for healthy companionship over true love. "They mentioned being in relationships, experiencing true love, and even truer heartbreaks when they were young, and after all these years, they have come to realize that comfortable companionship is what matters in the end. They also disclosed the exact requirements on their bio, so no man will come with expectations that do not align with what they are willing to offer," the survey mentioned.

Dating apps have actually worked

While one may think that dating apps are probably for the young, it isn't all that true. In fact, there are cases when seniors have actually found true love through dating apps. "8% of the survey participants claim to have found genuine love on the app. 12% of women mentioned they have found friends like family and urged more seniors to start using dating and friendship apps; age should never be the factor in deciding whether one deserves to find real connections."
