13 Things People And Businesses Have Done For The Homeless
Holding the door for someone, helping an elderly person cross the road, or uplifting a co-worker¡¯s mood are just some acts of kindness that can make a huge difference in the world. Sending positive vibes out into the universe is as important as feeling optimistic within.
Feeding the homeless is another great way of giving back to the world. Several people and businesses have done their bit to help those who don¡¯t have a home and who don¡¯t get a decent meal in a day.
Here are 11 instances where the homeless were extended a kind hand:
1. The Bosu Body Bar
The Bosu Body Bar in Manchester did something incredible. As part of their ¡®The Bosu Project¡¯, they left bags full of tasty food for the homeless so that no one would go to bed hungry. With an aim to spread love, they urged their customers to drop off bags of essential items at their outlets so that no one would feel cold and lonely this winter. Read more

2. Patrice Evra
The French footballer distributed food to the homeless in the city of Marseille. In an Instagram post, the player wrote how sad he felt after encountering twelve homeless people in a span of thirty minutes. But unlike others, who complain and blame others, he decided to take affirmative action and make a difference. Read more

3. Muslim Aid UK charity
Volunteers from the Muslim AID UK charity created the world record for cooking the largest samosa, weighing 153.1 kg. The record was made in London and afterwards, the giant Asian snack was distributed among local homeless people with the help of Salvation Army. Read more

4. La Salvajeria
Jose Antonio, a homeless man, was given an incredible makeover after the owner of this Spanish salon, La Salvajeria decided to intervene. Antonio, who worked as an electrician once was suffering from depression, which eventually rendered him homeless as he was unable to work. But thanks to the salon owner, who knew Antonio from his day job, decided to transform him and give him a fresh start. Read more
5. Ginger Sprouse
Victor Hubbard had been homeless for three years. He stood at the same street corner, silently suffering from mental illness. He waited at the same spot for his mother who had abandoned him. Moved by his plight, Sprouse launched a ¡®This is Victor¡¯ Facebook page where thousands of people sent him supplies of clothes and food, and even helped him get medical appointments. Sprouse hired him at his own company. Gladly, all efforts led him to reunite with his mother as well. Read more

6. Veterans Community Project, Kansas
After receiving generous donations from community members, a local non-profit organisation, Veterans Community Project constructed 50 homes for homeless veterans. Each house cost $10,000 to construct within a village of other such houses to promote a living where these people felt less isolated. The veterans can live here for free and for as long as they want to. Read more

7. Coldplay
Last year, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin played an impromptu gig for homeless people in New York. The singer surprised the homeless at The Bowery Mission in Manhattan. The shelter¡¯s director of outreach said that Martin¡¯s performance really uplifted the spirits of every homeless man and woman residing at the shelter. Read more
8. The Pope
Pope Francis celebrated his 80th birthday by breaking bread with eight homeless people. He personally interacted with each one of them at the Vatican hotel and shared Argentinian cakes, sweets, meats, and even Nutella with them before heading to Mass. The Pope also sent birthday cakes for 1,500 people to kitchens that served the poor and the homeless. Read more

9. Muslim Aid and the East London Mosque
Through a charity drive organised by Muslim Aid and the East London Mosque, several UK Muslims came forward to donate 1,000 kg of food to the homeless, most of whom were non-Muslims. Supplies were donated by local businesses, homes, colleges, and universities and included items such as rice, pasta, cereal, tinned goods, etc. Read more

10. Ajay Munot
A businessman from Aurangabad, Munot donated his daughter¡¯s marriage budget to build 90 houses for the homeless. He curtailed the expenditure of 70 to 80 crores for the wedding and decided to direct it towards this noble cause. Read more
11. Vivek Kumar
An Uber driver, Vivek Kumar was driving a passenger home when he came across a homeless man shivering in the Delhi cold. The driver generously offered his jacket to the man who needed it more as he only had a pair of trousers on. Kumar¡¯s passenger, Anirban Banerjee, who witnessed the donation hailed Kumar in his Facebook post. Apparently, it was the only jacket Kumar had on him but giving it to the homeless man felt the right thing to do. Read more

A Muslim-owned restaurant in London offered a three-course meal to the homeless and the elderly last Christmas. The meal comprised of soup, chicken or a vegetarian casserole, and rice pudding as dessert. The restaurant¡¯s act of kindness was praised by one and the offer was shared widely across social media. 13. The Vatican
After Mother Teresa¡¯s canonisation, last year, the Vatican celebrated the event by serving pizzas to the homeless. 1,500 residents, who were being sheltered by the Italian branches of Mother Teresa's order, were treated to pizzas by the Vatican¡¯s nuns and priests. Read more
