What are the different entrance exams for MBA?
To help guide students, here is a breakdown of the different entrance exams for MBA:
1. The Common Admission Test (CAT)
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is India¡¯s most prestigious national-level entrance examination given by aspirants to get into top management institutes.
The IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) conduct the Common Admission Test annually on a rotational basis.
The CAT exam is divided into three sections:
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Ability
The exam is of a two-hour duration and each section is timed for 40 minutes.
In 2023, the CAT Exam will be held on 26th November 2023.
2. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT)
Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT is a national-level management entrance examination conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur for admission to MBA/PGDM programmes.
Apart from XLRI, over 1,000 B-schools accept XAT scores for admission to their post-graduate management programmes.
Similar to CAT, XAT evaluates candidates on verbal reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and logical reasoning. Apart from that, it also tests candidates' general knowledge which sets it apart from other entrance exams.
The XAT 2024 is set to be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
3. Management Aptitude Test (MAT)
Management Aptitude Test is a standard aptitude test conducted in India since 1998 by the All India Management Association.
Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD had approved MAT as a national level test in 2003.
MAT is used for admission to Master of Business Administration and allied programmes by over 600 business schools across India.
Unlike CAT and XAT, MAT adopts a paper-based testing. The exam tests candidates abilities to work out questions and scenarios in a non-digital environment.
The MAT Entrance is held four times a year - February, May, September, and December.
How to choose which entrance exam to give for MBA?
The entrance exam you choose to give should depend on the college you wish to secure admission into, since different colleges may accept scores from a particular entrance examination only.
