It's 2020 and a large section of men in India believe that witches do exist in the form of women, while they conveniently ignore other glaring issues and realities.
In a recent incident, a 75-year-old woman was branded a witch and killed by her neighbour in Salami village of Gumla, Jharkhand. The incident took place on September 9.
The victim, Shanicharwa Khadia, was sitting outside her home when her neighbour Pandu Oraon assaulted her with sticks and a sharp weapon, according to a report by The Times of India.
Mangaleshwar, the son of the woman, told TOI that she died on the spot.
¡°Oraon called my mother a witch and yelled that he used to see her apparition wherever he went," he told the police.
SP Hrudeep P Janardhan said, ¡°The accused will be arrested soon. While the cases of witch-hunting have reduced, still a lot of awareness is needed to be created," he told TOI.
In yet another case of witch-hunting, a was allegedly thrashed by her family in Bihar. They tonsure her head and force-fed her human excreta after labelling her a witch.
