A murder case has been filed against Union Minister of State Ajay Kumar Mishra's son for running over his car over farmers protesting at a site in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP leader Ajay Kumar Mishra has landed in a soup, soon after his younger son Ashish was accused of killing four farmers, injuring many others, and triggering violence that led to more deaths.
Ashish, popularly known as ¡°Monu bhaiya¡±, was running a pre-poll campaign in Lakhimpur Kheri, and planned to step into his father¡¯s shoes as a politician. However, his future plans look murky now.
The Uttar Pradesh Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Ashish Mishra for murder. However, Ajay Mishra and his son have maintained that he was not present at the spot and was not driving the car.
He also said that he is not aware of any FIR against his son Ashish Mishra.
"My son wasn't present at the spot. There were miscreants who attacked workers with sticks and swords. Had my son been there, he wouldn't have come out alive," Mishra was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
"My son was present at the venue of the (Deputy Chief Minister's) event... all through, I was accompanying the deputy chief minister," he said.
One of the FIRs by UP Police mentions that the October 3 violence that killed eight persons was part of a ¡°well-planned conspiracy¡± by Ajay and Ashish Mishra.
The FIR, registered at the Tikonia police station by Jagjit Singh, alleges Ashish, accompanied by 15 to 20 armed persons, was going in a three-vehicle convoy.
