Eight people died in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday ¡ª four farmers, two BJP workers, a driver and local scribe Raman Kashyap who had gone to cover a protest planned by farmers against the visit of Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya to Tikonia area of Kheri.

The farmers were crushed to death when one of the cars in the convoy of Union Minister Ajay Mishra¡¯s son Ashish Mishra alias Monu rammed into protesting farmers and mowed down several of them. He has now been named in the FIR along with 15-20 unidentified people.

1. Leaders arrested, stopped from visiting Lakhimpur

Leaders of different political parties were stopped on their way to UP's Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday night, following the deadly incident.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's convoy was stopped in Lucknow. Later, she defied the house arrest she was put under and continued to move towards Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday night. However, she was detained in Hargaon and taken to Sitapur.

If, by tomorrow, the Union Minister¡¯s son behind the brutal murder of Farmers is not arrested, and our leader @PriyankaGandhi being unlawfully arrested, fighting for farmers is not released, the Punjab Congress will march towards Lakhimpur Kheri ! @INCIndia @INCPunjab

A trucked was parked outside Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav to prevent him from leaving his house. He was to leave for Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday morning. Police have also deployed outside his residence in Lucknow.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait's convoy was also stopped on its way to Lakhimpur Kheri. Satish Chandra Mishra of the BSP left his home at midnight but was stopped in Lucknow and put under house arrest.

Bhim Army's Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan's convoy was stopped near Khairabad in Sitapur. He was detained at Sitapur police line.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh was stopped in Sitapur on his way to Lakhimpur Kheri on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. He was stopped during checking of vehicles in Laharpur area of the district.

2. No arrests made yet

Even 3 days after the incident, no arrests have been made so far. A senior police officer in Uttar Pradesh has said arrests in the Lakhimpur Kheri case ¡ª in which Ashish Mishra is accused of murder and criminal conspiracy ¡ª will be made after the police get evidence and corroborate it, reports The Hindu.

When asked by reporters why no arrests had been made yet in the case despite the identity of the accused being known, Inspector General, Lucknow, Laxmi Singh said a team had been formed and arrests would be made after finding evidence.

This after a video that went viral clearly shows that several farmers were run over by the convoy of minister's son.

3. No action, word by central government

Only 3 hours away from Lakhimpur Kheri where the gruesome act took place, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said nothing about the incident. On Oct 5, maintaining his silence, PM Modi went on to inaugurate 75 developmental projects in the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in Lucknow, to mark the 75th year of independence. He was welcomed by UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

As per India Today, the FIR claimed, "The central government also did not take any action against the Union minister in the wake of the viral video and today (October 3), his son carried out the gruesome act."

4. Farmers holding peaceful protest blamed for violence

Union Minister Ajay Mishra on Sunday said that his car turned turtle following stone pelting from agitating farmers and that is son was not present at the spot.

¡°During Lakhimpur Kheri visit, our workers came to receive us amid farmers' protest. Some miscreants from agitating farmers started stone pelting on car and injured our driver," Mishra (Teni) told ANI.

Due to this, he said, his car got imbalanced and two people died coming under it. After this, our three workers and the driver of the car were beaten to death and cars were set on fire, he added.

This even as a video has gone viral where is it seen that protesting farmers were caught unaware from behind, and run over by the speeding convoy.

5. No mention of bullet injuries in autopsy

The post-mortem report of all the eight people, who died in Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday, revealed that no bullet injury was found on their bodies and they succumbed to shock, excessive bleeding and hemorrhage caused by anti-mortem injuries, said SN Sabat, officiating ADG (Lucknow Zone), on Tuesday.

However, one of the farmer mowed down by Mishra's convoy, 18-year-old Gurvinder's kin had refused to conduct the last rites on Tuesday, alleging that the postmortem report was ¡°incorrect and did not show gunshot injuries suffered by Gurvinder¡±.

The family demanded a second autopsy report of Gurvinder. That report also did not mention any bullet injuries, his family said on Wednesday a day after they had rejected the first autopsy. The body was, meanwhile, cremated in his village in Bahraich district, his family said on Wednesday.

Earlier, all four families of the deceased farmers refused to cremate the bodies fearing the post mortem reports will be botched up once the last rites were conducted. But the families gave in and three farmers were cremated on Tuesday, one on Wednesday.
