On May 24, the oppressive temperatures led to a baby monkey fainting from dehydration due to heat stroke.
The incident took place in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where Vikas Tomar, a head constable at the Chhatari police station, became an unexpected hero.
Upon noticing the distressed animal, Tomar sprang into action, drawing on his emergency training. Recognising the physiological similarities between humans and monkeys, he began to administer CPR to the tiny primate.
The 51-year-old cop told TOI, "We are trained to handle emergencies. Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive the monkey while my colleagues protected me from an agitated troupe. I pumped the chest for almost 45 minutes with intermittent rubbing and pouring little amounts of water into the mouth and finally it revived."

The rescue was no easy task. Bhoopendra Singh, SHO, noted, "Several monkeys had gathered around and it was very hard to rescue the baby."
Despite the challenging circumstances, Tomar's perseverance paid off.
After 45 minutes of continuous effort, the baby monkey regained consciousness. Once revived, the young monkey was administered antibiotics to aid its recovery.
