In a tragic incident, a Bengaluru man who was in the midst of divorce proceedings with his wife died by suicide after the latter allegedly refused to withdraw the legal proceedings. The 39-year-old, Manjunath, a resident of Kunigal town in Tumakuru district of Karnataka, died on Thursday after he set himself on fire.
Couple married in 2013
According to reports, Manjunath set himself on fire in front of his wife's residence in the Nagarbhavi locality of Bengaluru after his attempts to talk her into withdrawing the divorce plea failed.
Manjunath, who owned and operated his own cab, married his wife in 2013, and the couple has a 9-year-old son.
Due to some differences, the relationship broke down, and Manjunath and his wife had been living separately for two years. In the meantime, both agreed on a legal separation and filed for divorce, for which the proceedings were underway.
Husband tried to end divorce case
But things took an unexpected turn on Thursday when Manjunath went to meet his estranged wife in an attempt to salvage the relationship.
Manjunath reportedly requested his wife to withdraw the divorce petition from the court. But when she refused to reconcile with him, citing his past actions, Manjunath left her residence.
He then pulled out a can of petrol, set himself on fire in the corridor of the house, and torched himself. According to the police, Manjunath, who suffered severe burns, died on the spot.

Following the incident, Manjunath's parents have blamed his wife for his death and filed a complaint with the Jnanabharathi police against her.
