Dr Nawal Kishore Choudhary, a 2013-batch IAS officer serving as the district magistrate of Gopalganj in Bihar has taken the initiative to help people have better access to books, as per The New Indian Express.
He launched ¡®Pustak Daan Mahaaviyan¡¯ (book donation campaign). The aim was to put people in the habit of reading, especially students.
Choudhary flagged off a vehicle that will collect books magazines and notebooks of successful candidates to help the students prepare for competitive examinations. Not just students, books will be collected for adults too who waste time either playing cards or being engrossed in village gossip.
'Source of knowledge'
¡°Books are the source of knowledge. They can be helpful in shaping the career of the youths. But many of them can¡¯t afford to buy books of their choice. These books and other reading materials gathering dust in book shelves in houses can be useful for others,¡± he said.
Choudhary is an MBBS and hails from Sitamarhi. He initially said that the books collected shall be stored and subsequently put on display at the district library. He added that similar libraries would be opened at block and panchayat levels.
¡°If the facilities are available at doorstep, what the need of staying hundreds of kilometres from home to do the same,¡± he added.
This is a nice venture by the DM and it shows there are people who go above and beyond to do their best for the people depending on them.
