'Can't Refund Education'! The Tweet That Led To Hashtag 'BoycottSwiggy' Trending On Twitter
As one would expect, Swiggy's reply to Nirmala Sitharaman's parody account did not sit well with trolls, who took the road most travelled and decided to trend #BoycottSwiggy on Twitter.
Food delivery app Swiggy has recently found itself in the midst of a controversy on Twitter after its statement on the farmers protests. Swiggy had actually responded to a tweet by the parody account of Nirmala Sitharaman.
The parody account had tweeted, 'Had an argument with my Bhakt friend over a farmers protest. He said that we are not dependent on farmers for food. We can always order food from Swiggy. He won'. To which, Swiggy replied, "sorry, we can¡¯t refund education", indicating those who believe farmers don't contribute to food are not educated.

The viral tweet by the food delivery app then led to a bitter crossfire between Twitter users from different sides of the political spectrum.
While some users commended Swiggy for its tweet, others termed the tweet derogatory and threatened to boycott the food delivery app. Some also advised the companies should stay away from such controversies.
Uninstalled Swiggy and requested 10 more people to do the same. Each one of them will request ten people known to them.#StopFundingHate #boycottswiggy

Along with Swiggy, its rival platform Zomato also started trending by Tuesday morning, with many users claiming those boycotting will now be left with no option since they boycotted Zomato a month earlier.
Bhakts want to boycott Swiggy but they will have no option because they boycotted Zomato earlier

Best strategy for competitor companies is to offend Bhakts together, you¡¯ll get free publicity and they¡¯ll be unable to boycott everything ? https://t.co/Alv6fs1oxy
Earlier this month, Zomato had also courted controversy after it responded to actor Swara Bhaskar's demand to stop advertisements to a Hindi channel that she accused of indulging in biased news coverage. "Hi Swara, please note, we don't endorse any content except our own. That being said, we are looking into this," Zomato had responded.
