New fees to be effective from April 1
¡°The permanent residence fees will increase at 9:00:00 a.m. Eastern daylight time on April 30, 2024, by the cumulative percentage increase to the Consumer Price Index for Canada, published by Statistics Canada, for the two previous years, rounded to the nearest five dollars,¡± it said.
Right of permanent residence fee
According to the revised figures the Right of Permanent Residence Fee has been increased from $515 to $575 (Rs 31,000 to 35,000).
Permanent residency for skilled workers
For the Federal Skilled Workers, Provincial Nominee Program, Quebec Skilled Workers, Atlantic Immigration Class and most economic pilots programs, the fee has gone up from $850 to $950 (Rs 52,400 to 58,600).
In addition to this, those wanting to bring their spouses or partners have to pay the same amount for them and another $260 (Rs 16,000) for the accompanying dependent child.
Permanent residency for caregivers
For Live-in Caregiver Program and caregivers pilots (Home Child Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot), the fees have been increased from $570 to $635 (Rs 35,100 to 39,200) for the principal applicant and the same amount for their spouses or partners. For accompanying dependent children under these programmes, the fee has gone up from $155 to $175 (Rs 9500 to 10,800).
Permanent residency for business
For permanent residency under the Business program, the fee has been hiked from $1,625 to $1,810 (Rs 1,00,300 to 1,11,700) for the principal applicant.
The permanent residency fee hike is the latest in a string of measures Canada has recently adopted to reduce migration to the country, amid a growing housing and cost of living crisis there.
