A minor girl from Chennai killed herself after being sexually harassed and wrote an emotional and triggering note about her battle with harassment, loneliness, and how neither her school nor close relationships provided her any support or safe space during the time of distress.
The police are investigating the case through suicide notes found in the victim¡¯s house, who was a student of a government-run school.
Reports suggest that the girl's mother discovered her body. She had taken her life after the mother left the house.
In the letter, seen by CNN-NEWS18, the girl has evocatively said it appeared to her as though ¡°the mother¡¯s womb and the grave were only safe places.¡±
The girl's parents interacted with the press and said that she had been transferred from a private school, where she had been studying till ninth grade.
The parents said the son of a teacher at the private school had harassed her. The police are said to be proving this angle too.
Crime against women rise in Chennai
In another crime against women reported from Chennai, a self-styled godman was arrested for raping a woman with help from his wife.
The godman, who had been running an ashram in Madhavaram, was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman for about five years right from when she was a minor and impregnating her after her marriage by threatening her with obscene photos.
Police said that the godman's wife has been arrested for aiding her husband all these years and threatening the victim to abort the child.
However, the victim delivered the child at a government hospital in Chennai and has been raising the child with the consent of her husband.
In another instance, a girl in Coimbatore killed herself after alleging sexual harassment by her teacher. The teacher is currently in police custody under laws preventing sexual abuse of children (POCSO).
Last week, the body of another high school student in Tamil Andu¡¯s Coimbatore district was found amid bushes. She had gone missing on December 11.
