National capital New Delhi and adjoining areas woke up to yet another day of dense fog and low visibility on Saturday, January 11. Cold wave conditions that have gripped Delhi-NCR continue to intensify, and the winter chill is set to be felt even more this weekend, with the region expected to experience heavy rains.
Heavy rains predicted for Delhi
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR will receive heavy rainfall on January 11 and 12 due to Western Disturbances. The rains are expected to be accompanied by chilly winds, intensifying the ongoing cold wave.
Temperature to drop
The IMD predicts that the minimum temperature will drop further, with Delhi expected to see a range between 6 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius. Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram are set to experience similar cold conditions, with minimum temperatures dipping to as low as 5 degrees Celsius in Ghaziabad.

Zero visibility in Delhi
The dense fog conditions that disrupted flight and train operations in Delhi on Friday are expected to continue over the weekend.
On Friday, zero visibility caused by the dense fog that enveloped Delhi resulted in over 100 flights being delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, and 26 trains were late, according to officials.
On Friday morning, the IGI Airport issued an update on social media stating that low visibility procedures were in progress and that flights were operating normally.

Air quality in Delhi
The dense fog conditions have also affected the air quality in Delhi-NCR. On Friday evening, the air quality in the city was near the ¡°severe¡± category (397) in the ¡°very poor¡± category, according to the CPCB.
