Autopsy Of Delhi Woman Dragged Under Car Rules Out Sexual Assault, Shock And Haemorrhage Cause Of Death

The preliminary autopsy of the 20-year-old woman who died after being dragged by a speeding car for 12 kilometres in Delhi on Sunday has suggested that she was not sexually assaulted as alleged by her family.

According to a preliminary autopsy report, there was "no injury suggestive of sexual assault."

Shock, haemorrhage due to injury caused the death

The preliminary autopsy report said that shock and haemorrhage due to injury to the head, spine and lower limbs led to the death of the 20-year-old woman.

Her autopsy was conducted under the supervision of a medical board at the Maulana Azad Medical College premises on Monday.

"Shock and haemorrhage as a result of antemortem injury to the head, spine, left femur, and both lower limbs. All injuries produced by blunt force impact and possible with vehicular accident and dragging," said Sagar Preet Hooda, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), quoting the report.

"Also, the report indicates that there is no injury suggestive of sexual assault. The final report will be received in due course. Further investigation in the case is underway," he said.

Family had alleged sexual assault

The woman, identified as Anjali Singh, was killed in the early hours of the New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for 12 km.

Her naked body was found in the Kanjhawala area on Sunday morning.

Initially, the victim's family suspected she could have been sexually abused by the accused.

On Tuesday, her body was handed over to the family members after the autopsy.

A family member said the body will be cremated this evening after the rituals are performed.

Victim's co-passenger records statement

Meanwhile, Nidhi, a friend of Anjali who was with her at the time of the accident, has recorded her statement before a magistrate.

Nidhi, riding with the victim on the latter's scooty at the time of the accident on Sunday, told the magistrate that she had fled the spot and did not tell anyone out of fear.

In the statement, she claimed that the driver of the car was at fault and after being hit, Anjali fell in front of the vehicle while Nidhi fell on the other side and escaped without getting hurt.

However, the five arrested accused, identified as Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mitthu and Manoj Mittal, told the police that the scooty was swerving, which led to the accident.

The two women were leaving Vivan Palace OYO hotel after attending a New Year's party when they met with the accident.
