Last month, a farmer protesting against the new farm laws died by suicide at the Tikri border. In December, a lawyer from Punjab allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison a few kilometres from the Tikri border.
Past incidents of deaths
A Sikh preacher, Sant Ram Singh, had also allegedly ended his life near the Singhu border protest site claiming that he was "unable to bear the pain of the farmers".
A 22-year-old farmer had also allegedly committed suicide in Punjab's Bathinda after returning from a protest site near the Delhi border. A 65-year-old farmer from Punjab had also attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance near the Singhu border.
The Centre has held several rounds of formal talks with the representatives of farmers to resolve the issue over the farm laws, but failed to achieve any concrete solution with the unions sticking to their main demand for the repeal of the legislations.
Remember, thousands of farmers, mainly from Haryana and Punjab, have been protesting at various border points of Delhi for over two months now, insisting on repeal of the Centre's three laws.
