Delhi Bans Firecrackers On Diwali To Save The City From Pollution Woes
Firecrackers have once again been banned in Delhi during Diwali.
Firecrackers have once again been banned in Delhi during Diwali.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement today.
"In view of the dangerous condition of Delhi's pollution during Diwali in the last three years, like last year, a complete ban is being imposed on the storage, sale and use of all types of firecrackers. (This is) so that people's lives can be saved," Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
"In view of the seriousness of pollution after the stocking of firecrackers by trader... last year a complete ban was imposed late, which caused losses to traders. It is an appeal to all traders (this time) that in view of the complete ban, do not store or sell firecrackers," he also tweeted.
The reason is of course due to the rising concerns of pollution.
Back in 2020, firecrackers were also banned during Diwali and the COVID pandemic was an added factor.

However, they could be heard across the NCR despite the ban.
The police had said that action would be taken against those who violated the rules.
Back in 2019, the Supreme Court allowed only only 'anar' and 'phuljari' in Delhi to curb air, sound pollution.
In 2018, the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 600-mark, which is 12 times the safe limit.
It remains to be seen if people follow the rules this year.
Other than firecrackers, air pollution in Delhi during Diwali is made worse by stubble burning in neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
