Flying On Vistara? Be Ready For Flight Disruptions: What The Airline Said

Vistara, the full-service carrier jointly owned by the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines has acknowledged that the airline has experienced a notable uptick in cancellations and delays due to crew unavailability and other factors.
¡°We have had a significant number of flight cancellations and delays in the past few days due to various reasons, including crew unavailability," the airline said.
How Vistara has responded
"We acknowledge this and are deeply concerned about the inconvenience caused to our customers," the airline said, adding that they are working towards minimising the discomfort to the customers.
"We have decided to temporarily reduce the number of flights we operate to ensure adequate connectivity across our network. We have also deployed larger aircraft like B787-9 Dreamliner and A321neo on select domestic routes to combine flights or accommodate more number of customers, wherever possible," the airline said.
Up to 70 flights cancelled
The airline further said alternate flight options or refunds to affected customers are being offered.
On Monday as many as 50 flights were cancelled by Vistara, which is expected to go up to 70 on Tuesday.
Why Vistara crew are angry
Vistara reportedly ran into trouble with its crew as their salaries have been reduced significantly.
Some components of the salary have been reduced while incentives linked to flying hours have been raised, in line with that of Tata Group's flagship carrier, Air India, with which Vistara will soon merge.
According to Vistara crew, the new salary structure First Officers are offered 40 hours of minimum guaranteed flying to all pilots instead of the current 70 hours, resulting in an almost 57% pay cut.
They also claim that under the new terms, they have to fly for up to 76 hours to earn what they were drawing at 70 hours earlier, and this is at a time when Vistara¡¯s flight operations are expected to reduce as aircraft are shifted to Air India and Air India Express.
On the other hand, Captains and Senior Captains would only have to fly 52-55 hours and 55-60 hours, respectively, to earn the salary they were getting for 70 hours of minimum flying.
