9 lives lost to suicide in past 2 months
Nine young lives have been lost by suicide in the months of May and June alone in Kota.
The total number of suicides since the beginning of this year has reached a staggering 16.
Aiming to "provide mental support and security to the students studying and living in these accommodations, and to prevent suicides from increasing coaching students", the order was issued by Kota district collector Om Prakash Bunkar.

It mandated the installation of spring-loaded fans in all hostel rooms and paying guest accommodations.
Strict orders
A previous order issued in December 2022 had outlined several measures aimed at student welfare, including a weekly off for students, a maximum class strength of 80, and mandatory psychological evaluations for both students and teachers.
The order warns that non-compliance with these measures will result in accommodations and institutions being seized, with necessary action taken against the owners.
Need to focus on psychological counselling of children
Students from across India make their way to Kota every year, hoping to crack the entrance exams to top medical or engineering schools.
Kota has thus become the centre of preparation for India's competitive entrance exams.
A survey by mental wellness startup Lissun had revealed that 4 out of 10 students in Kota are struggling with depression, as stated by India Today.
The Rajasthan High Court has emphasized the need to focus on psychological counselling of children and is considering the introduction of the Rajasthan Coaching Institute (Control and Regulation) Bill 2023.
