Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja to be the next 'king' of Jamnagar
Ajaysinhji Jadeja, as he is officially known, was born on 1 February 1971, as the son of Daulatsinhji Jadeja, a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Jamnagar, and Shan, who hailed from Kerala. The 56-year-old, who also belongs to the Jamnagar royal family, is the cousin of Shatrusalyasinhji Jadeja.
Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been declared the next Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, the titular head of the erstwhile Jamnagar royal family in Gujarat. Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji Digvijaysinhji Jadeja, the current title-holder, on Friday, October 11, announced that the former cricketer will succeed him on the throne.

The 56-year-old, who also belongs to the Jamnagar royal family, is the cousin of Shatrusalyasinhji Jadeja.
"The festival of Dussehra is believed to mark the day the Pandavas emerged victorious from exile. On this auspicious day, I have resolved my dilemma as Ajay Jadeja has accepted my offer to be my heir. I have full confidence that Ajay Jadeja will be a blessing for the people of Jamnagar and will serve them with dedication. I'm deeply grateful to him," Shatrusalyasinhji Jadeja said in a statement.

Ajay Jadeja's cricket career
Jadeja made his Team India debut in 1992 and played for the national side in 196 ODIs and 15 Test matches. Jadeja's cricket career was cut short in 2000 when he was embroiled in the match-fixing scandal, for which he was handed a five-year ban. Though the ban was revoked in 2003, he could not make it back to the national team.

The Nawanagar State, as it was previously known, was ruled by the Jadeja Rajput dynasty before the princely state became a part of India. Some of the other famous members of the Nawanagar royal family include Kumar Sri Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji, popularly known as Ranji, often referred to as the "Father of Indian Cricket."
