Four Nuns Who Protested Against Rape Accused Franco Mulakkal Transferred By Church

Continuing its vindictive attitude towards the four nuns who have led the protests against Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of Jalandhar who was accused of rape, the Missionaries of Jesus has transferred them to four different locations.

The four nuns, have been staying with the another nun, the complainant against Franco in a convent in Kuravilangad in Kerala.

According to the Missionaries Of Jesus, Sister Anupama, who has been the leading figure in the protest have been asked to return to Punjab, Sister Ancitta has been shifted to Kannur, in Kerala, while Sister Alphy has been moved to Bihar and another nun Sister Josephine has been transferred to Jharkhand.

According to Missionaries Of Jesus the four nuns were transferred from Kerala last year, but they did not move out. In the new order the congregation has warned them of initiation disciplinary action if the transfer order is not respected.

Calling it a vindictive step, Sister Anupama said they will challenge the transfer legally and will continue to support the complainant nun.

This is not the first time the Missionaries Of Jesus, the convent which the complainant belongs to has been accused of siding with the accused.

Right from the beginning the Jalandhar-based congregation, whose patron is the rape-accused bishop himself has tried to shield him. The Missionaries Of Jesus had gone on a character assassination spree, question the character of the accused and even went on make her identity public.

In a related development, another nun Sister Lucy Kalapura, who was also on the forefront of the protest was served a notice by the church. Among other things, she was accused of leading a life "against principles of religious life", owning a car and actively writes and publishes poems.
