G20 Summit: No Lockdown In Delhi, Cops Quell Rumors

Ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi, the Delhi Police on Thursday rejected reports that the national capital was being placed under lockdown during the three days (8-10 September).
According to Delhi Police, PRO, Suman Nalwa, a ¡°controlled zone¡± has been made in the New Delhi district and all commercial establishments have been closed in the area for three days, but there will be no lockdown.
Controlled zone, no lockdown: Delhi Police
"Regarding the G20 summit, rumors are spreading that Delhi will be under lockdown at that time. It is factually not correct. As a number of heads of States are coming and international organisations are joining, that's why we have made a 'Controlled zone' in the New Delhi district. All the commercial establishments have been closed in this area for three days," Nalwa told ANI.

"We have been advising people to travel by Delhi Metro. Bonafide residents of the restricted zone will be allowed to move by displaying a valid ID. No restriction on the movement of essential commodities coming through Delhi borders," she added.
Restrictions with minimal inconvenience to public
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) chaired a high level to oversee the preparedness of the G20 summit.
In the meeting, which was chaired by the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister P K Mishra, a mobile app made for G20, called 'G20 India', was unveiled, which is now available for download, both on Android and iOS.
Mishra took stock of the preparations for the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Summit, including logistical, protocol, security and media-related arrangements.
Mishra emphasised that though restrictions are unavoidable, efforts should be made so that most minor inconvenience is caused to the public.
Further, he directed the officials during the meeting to make communications regarding traffic restrictions more user-friendly.
Regarding logistics, drills are being held, and dress rehearsals are planned in the coming days.
Eight hospitals on high alert
A total of eight hospitals, including three private medical facilities, have been put on "high alert" in view of the G20 Summit, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has said.
The Delhi health department has formed 80 teams of doctors and nursing staff who will serve guests staying at hotels. Out of these teams, 75 teams will work in shifts, officials said on Wednesday.
These include primarily Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, and Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, along with private facilities Primus Hospital Chanakyapuri, Max Hospital Saket, and Manipal Hospital Dwarka.
