Government hospitals refusing to accept old currency will face action if specific instances are repo
The government said it has asked banks to to use indelible ink while exchanging old Rs. 500 and 1,000 notes to stop "unscrupulous elements trying to convert black money".

Secretary Economic Affairs Shaktikanta Das said the government has noticed that the long queues in front o banks are a result of people coming back again and again to exchange their currency.
Das said by using indelible ink banks will be able to prevent this from happening.
He also appealed to Jan Dhan account holders to not allow others to use their accounts and the government is closely monitoring accounts to prevent such misuse.

He said that a task force has been set up to look after shifting and storing of old notes to ease pressure on the banks.
Das also rejected reports of shortage of essential goods including salt and said that unscrupulous elements had spread rumours.

Reacting to reports that hospitals have refused to accept old currencies despite the government order, Das said if specific instances are provided action will be taken against them.
The EAS also claimed that the situation has been gradually improving and it will ease out in the coming days.
