In a tragedy, the constable who had sustained several injuries including spinal injury in successful attempt to save a man from drowning in Kumbh Mela recently died at a hospital in New Delhi on Friday. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), constable Rajender Gautam died around 5:30 am, the Inspector General, NDRF, L Ravi Joseph told PTI. Rajender Gautam hailed from Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh.
"He had sustained a severe spinal injury during the rescue of an old man, who was drowning during the Kumbh Mela on February 19.

He was later airlifted to Delhi the same day, given the severity of his condition," he said.
His mortal remains will be taken to Himachal Pradesh. Sadly, no announcement for financial help to his family has been made by either the Centre or the state government of Uttar Pradesh where constable Rajender Gautam got injured while doing his duty with unparallel dedication.
