Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan booked under SC/ST Atrocities Act over false honey trap case
Infosys co-founder and former CEO Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, who is also a member of the IISc's Board of Trustees, has been booked in a case filed by a former staff member who claimed that he was wrongly dismissed from service.
Kris Gopalakrishnan, the co-founder of tech giant Infosys, has been booked along with 17 others under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act, based on a Karnataka court order. Balram, the former director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, is also one of those booked by the Sadashiva Nagar police in the Karnataka capital.
Case filed by former IISc faculty member
The 69-year-old Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, who is also a member of the IISc's Board of Trustees, has been booked in a case filed by a former staff member who claimed that he was wrongly dismissed from service.
Durgappa, a former faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at the Indian Institute of Science, claimed that in 2014 he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case and subsequently dismissed from service. The complainant, who belongs to the Bovi tribal community, also alleged that he was subjected to casteist abuse and threats.

All the other 16 people named in the complaint, including Govindan Rangarajan, the current director of IISc, Capt Sridhar Warrier, the Registrar of IISc, and IISc faculty members Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Balaram P, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan, have also been booked.
SC/ST Atrocities Act
The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, was enacted to address offences committed against members of the SC and ST communities. Under the Act, intentionally insulting or intimidating with intent to humiliate a member of an SC or ST community is a punishable offence.
Who is Kris Gopalakrishnan?
Gopalakrishnan is one of the co-founders of Infosys and served as the CEO and managing director from 2007 to 2011 and vice-chairman from 2011 to 2014.
A 2011 Padma Bhushan awardee, Gopalakrishnan is also a member of the board of governors of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology and is the chairman of the board of governors of the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore.
