Israel-Hamas War: Here Is Why A High Alert Has Been Sounded In Delhi
The Delhi Police has also beefed up security around the Israeli embassy and Chabad House. Authorities have directed to increase the vigil around both the installations.
Amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Delhi Police has sounded a security alert in the national capital.
The Delhi Police has also beefed up security around the Israeli embassy and Chabad House located in Chandni Chowk in central Delhi in the wake of the Israel-Hamas conflict, an official said.
Why security has been stepped up in Delhi
The officer added that authorities have directed to increase the vigil around both installations.
"Security has been also beefed up at the Chabad House (Jewish prayer house) and other parts of Delhi as well. Security arrangements have been made wherever there are Jewish establishments," the officer said.
What Delhi Police said
On Thursday, the Delhi Police also carried out a late-night patrol around the Jama Masjid in the walled city area.

Video clips shared on social media showed a squad of bike-borne police personnel patrolling the Jama Masjid area, followed by another group of policemen on foot patrol.
According to officials, the patrolling is part of an "institutionalised mechanism" conducted by Delhi Police from time to time.
Delhi Police said the exercise was conducted in the wake of certain "inputs" they received amid the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Delhi Police has also urged Muslim community members to offer namaz at mosques in their areas of residence and not venture elsewhere to offer prayers.
When Israeli establishments came under attack in India
While the nature of the current "inputs" the Delhi Police have received is unknown, it should be noted that Israeli and Jewish establishments in India have been targeted by terrorists in the past.
In February 2012, a motorcyclist had attached a 'sticky bomb' to the car of the wife of the Israeli defence attache to India in Delhi. The bomb explosion had left her, a local employee and two passers-by injured.
In January 2021, a small bomb had exploded near the Israeli embassy in Delhi, damaging nearby cars but causing no injuries.
How terrorists attacked Nariman House during 26/11
But the worst attack on Jews in India happened in 2008 during the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai.
The Nariman House, a Chabad house in Mumbai, was one of the targets of the Pakistani terrorists. All six occupants there, including Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, his pregnant wife Rivka and their two-year-old son, were held hostage by the terrorists.
Only their two-year-old son, Baby Moshe, survived the attack after being rescued by his Indian nanny, Sandra Samuel.
