'Judge asked my wife why she wasn't seeking alimony', man's shocking claim amid Bengaluru techie suicide
According to Atul Subhash, the judge Rita Kaushik laughed when his wife said he should commit suicide if he could not pay the maintenance amount. Subhash blamed harassment by his estranged wife, her family, and the judge as the reason for him taking the extreme step.
One of the most shocking revelations in the 24-page-long suicide note written by Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, who died by suicide on Monday, was the conduct of a family court judge during his divorce proceedings. According to Subhash, the judge also laughed when his wife said he should commit suicide if he could not pay the maintenance amount.

He further alleged that the judge, Rita Kaushik, had sought ?5 lakhs from him to settle the matter.
As outrage continues over the suicide of Subhash, who blamed harassment by his estranged wife, her family, and the judge as the reason for him taking the extreme step, a social media user has shared his experience with the judiciary while divorce proceedings were underway.

Bodhisatwa Dasgupta, from the advertising agency The Voice Company, said that in 2013, he and his then-wife decided to mutually part ways.
The divorce process went rather smoothly, and the two agreed to allow the wife to have custody of their daughter, while Dasgupta had visitation rights.
"There was no conversation about alimony. Both of us held similar jobs and were bringing home about the same. Plus, she's always been a proud woman," Dasgupta wrote in a LinkedIn post.

'Are you sure you don't want any alimony?'
But when the divorce proceedings reached the court, he was left shocked.
"Even though the conditions of the divorce were written down, agreed upon and signed by both of us, at the court, on the final day of the hearing, the judge called my ex and asked her 'Are you sure you don't want any alimony? It's within your right to demand for it.' And I was like, wtf judge? This was a mutual divorce. All you have to do is grant the divorce. That's literally it. You have no role to play here. Nobody is contesting anything, there's no fight - and here you are, trying to create one," he narrated.
"So I get what Atul went through. It's despicable and sad," he added.
Dasgupta ended his post by saying he would have probably done what Atul Subhash did if he had faced a similar situation.
