But it is not the Mercedes of the Chief Justice that became the talking point but its number plate. In the photo shared by angel investor Lloyd Mathias, the CJI's car has a number plate reading -- DL1 CJI 0001.

People wonder how
Reacting to the photo many wondered how Justice DY Chandrachud got the special number, and some evern joked that it would change to DL 1X CJI 001 after his retirement.
While others were skeptical if the number plate was even real.
CJI's car, not Justice Chandrachud's
Here is the reality...
The number plate is not fake and the Mercedes Benz E 350D is in fact used by the Justice DY Chandrachud himself.
But it is not his personal vehicle and is owned by the registrar of the Supreme Court of India and has been assigned to the CJI.

Justice DY Chandrachud who assumed office in November 2022 is the 50th Chief Justice of India. His term in office will come to an end in November 2024.
When he assumed office in 2022, Justice DY Chandrachud made history by becoming the first Chief Justice of India who is also the son of a former CJI.
Justice DY Chandrachud's father YV Chandrachud was the 16th CJI of India and held the office for a record 7 years and 4 months, from February 1978 to July 1985.
