Based on inputs on his location, Dubey was tracked down in a hotel, but before a team of UP STF and Haryana Police could reach there, the hardened criminal and his four aides fled the scene.
It is still unclear how and why Dubey was in Faridabad. There are reports that the gangster is fearing for his life as he feels he could be killed in an encounter by the police. He is reportedly trying to surrender in a court outside UP to avoid the encounter killing.
According to the UP Police, 40 teams are on the hunt for Dubey who has been on the run since the encounter that left eight policemen including a DSP dead. Police departments in other neighbouring states have also been put on alert following several reports of him being on the road.
In a related development, Amar Dubey, a close aide of the gangster, and was also part of the gunmen who ambushed the cops was shot dead by the police. "The aide Amar Dubey was co-accused in the Kanpur incident and was killed on Wednesday morning,¡±
UP Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said. He further said that UP Special Task Force (STF) gunned him down in coordination with the local police unit in Hamirpur.
There was a reward of Rs 25,000 on him, Kumar added. A police inspector and a constable of the STF were injured in the gun fight. Hamirpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Shlok Kumar said that an automatic weapon and a bag were recovered from Amar Dubey¡¯s possession. ¡°Forensic team is on their way to the encounter site, further investigation is underway,¡± he added.
Amar was the brother of Atul Dubey, another member of the gang who as killed in a shootout hours after the encounter in Bikru village.
Another gangster who was also part of the attack and carried a reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested by the police. Shyamu Bajpai was arrested in Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Chaubeypur on Wednesday after he was shot on the leg by the police.
In the meantime, all 68 personnel of the Chaubeypur police station have been replaced as part of the probe. It is alleged that some cops including now suspended SO Vinay Tiwari had close ties with the gangster and had leaked the information of the raid to him.
