Not Just Maharashtra, Total Five States Seeing Spike In Daily Covid Cases, Warns Centre
The health ministry has stressed on the importance of adhering to the Covid protocols and appropriate behaviour for breaking the chain of transmission and containment of the spread of Covid-19.
Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have recorded an ¡°upsurge¡± in daily new cases of COVID-19, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
The ministry said Punjab has reported 383 new cases in the last 24 hours while Chhattisgarh has reported 259 new cases and MP has reported 297 new cases in the same time period.
India on Saturday reported 13,993 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total tally of cases in the country to 1,09,77,387, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. With 101 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll reached 1,56,212.
India¡¯s present active caseload now consists of 1.30% of India¡¯s total positive cases, said the Centre on Saturday. The government has now said that some states are ¡°seeing an upsurge in daily new cases¡±. There has been rise in daily cases in Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Centre tells states to follow protocol
The Centre has said in its statement that while Kerala continues to report a high number of coronavirus cases, over the past seven days, Chhattisgarh has also seen a rise in daily new cases.
The health ministry has further stressed on the importance of adhering to the Covid protocols and appropriate behaviour for breaking the chain of transmission and containment of the spread of COVID-19.
The health ministry data stated that 1,07,15,304 people have been vaccinated so far. The data shows an uneven pattern of distribution, with several states and Union Territories injecting doses to less than 50 per cent of their target frontline workers. Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Punjab are among the larger states yet to reach 50 per cent vaccine coverage.

In the past week, Maharashtra has witnessed a spike in new coronavirus cases, prompting the Uddhav Thackeray government to impose fresh restrictions in parts of the state. Maharashtra has accounted for the highest number of daily coronavirus cases in India as of Friday. In the past 24 hours, 6,112 daily new cases were reported from the state. Owing to which, a total of 1305 buildings has been sealed in Mumbai, 71,838 households residing in these sealed buildings, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said.

Only two states, Maharashtra and Kerala, account for 75.87% of total number of active Covid-19 cases, the ministry added.
Situation in other states
The ministry said 18 states/UTs have not reported any Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours.
These are Telangana, Haryana, J&K (UT), Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Assam, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Meghalaya, Ladakh (UT), Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
