Kylian Mbappe released from hospital, returns to Real Madrid camp after gastroenteritis ahead of Club World Cup clash

Real Madrid have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has been discharged from the hospital in the United States after being treated for gastroenteritis. The French star had been dealing with a stomach infection and was taken in for tests during the Club World Cup trip.

¡°Mbappe was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training camp,¡± the club said in an official statement. He will now continue with specific medical treatment and gradually rejoin team activities.

Mbappe missed Madrid¡¯s Club World Cup opener against Al Hilal, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Coach Xabi Alonso had said the 26-year-old striker was already ¡°feeling a little better¡± but was not fit enough to play.

In Mbappe¡¯s absence, young forward Gonzalo Garcia got a rare start and scored Madrid¡¯s only goal against the Saudi side.

Real¡¯s next match is against Pachuca on Sunday. There is still uncertainty around Mbappe¡¯s return timeline. If he misses that game too, he could aim to feature in the final group stage match against RB Salzburg on June 26.

Mbappe joined Madrid after the Nations League campaign with France and had only one training session under Alonso before flying to the US. He scored 31 goals in La Liga last season and won the European Golden Shoe, but Real ended the campaign without a major title.

The Club World Cup presents a big opportunity for Alonso to lift his first trophy as Real boss. For that, he will be hoping Mbappe¡¯s return is not too far away.
