The incident was reported from Uttarakhand¡¯s Rudrapur on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Johnny Sagar had gone to attend Harinam Sankirtan, a religious ceremony at a temple.
What happened?
According to reports, from his behaviour inside the pandal, some people thought that the 29-year-old was drunk.
They then beat him and dragged him outside the pandal, where he was attacked again.
CCTV visuals from a grocery store opposite the temple showed a man can be seen dragging Johnny out of the pandal and thrashing him when he manages to sit up.
Sagar had reportedly managed to walk away from the spot after he was attacked but collapsed nearby.
He lied on the ground motionless for nearly two hours, before some locals called an ambulance and took him to a hospital.
He was declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the Jawaharlal Nehru District Hospital.
FIR filed
Following his death, Sagar's wife Sudha Rani has filed a police complaint and an FIR for murder has been lodged against unidentified accused.
SP (city) Mamta Vohra said that the post-mortem report ruled out that the man was drunk.
Vohra added that a probe is underway and the cops are examining the CCTV footage from inside the temple premises as well to identify the accused.
