Meet 21-Year-Old Diya Joseph, The Youngest Professional Bike Mechanic In India
Even in the 21st century, it's surprising to some when they see a woman behind the wheel or riding a bike. If someone's driving poorly, the assumption is often that it must be a woman. Breaking such stereotypes and going further, Diya Joseph from Kerala not only rides heavy motorbikes around her city but has also come to be recognised as India¡¯s youngest professional bike mechanic.

Would skip vacations & work in workshop as mechanic
Diya Joseph, a 21-year-old from Kerala, can often be spotted riding a 200 kg Thunderbird, a powerful 350 cc motorcycle, along the picturesque Kottayam-Kanjirapally route in her hometown.
A third-year mechanical engineering student at Amal Jyothi Engineering College in Kanjirappally, Kottayam, Diya possesses a wide range of skills beyond just riding a bike.
Her journey as a mechanic commenced by assisting her father, Joseph Dominique, in his workshop in Kottayam.
Even as a high school student, she began noting down issues related to two-wheelers at her father's workshop.
"As a teenager, when girls my age would spend weekends and vacations having fun, I would invariably be with my father in his workshop," she shared, as reported by TOI.
Over time, Diya progressed from handling basic repair tasks to now managing general servicing and reassembly of Bullet motorcycles.
Now, she has been hailed as India¡¯s ¡®youngest professional bike mechanic¡¯ by Enfield.
Huge surprise, says Diya
One day, Royal Enfield contacted Diya and offered her a chance to work at their factory in Chennai.
¡°It was a huge surprise. I never expected such a call. They came here and filmed a video featuring me. This is the most valuable recognition I could ever achieve,¡± she says, as quoted by Onmanorama.
On a typical day, Diya assists her father with tasks like changing oil and cables, tightening chains, and handling the unloading and reloading of parts.
From these humble beginnings to now being offered a job by Enfield as a mechanic, Diya has made significant progress, all by the age of 21!
