Meet Shravan Krishnan - The Man Who Helped The Chennai Dog, Bhadra, Get Justice

"We have named her Bhadra", a Facebook post shared by Shravan Krishnan said this morning. The name was given to the dog who survived being flung off a roof in Chennai.

The phone of the animal activist in Chennai has been ringing non-stop since the press conference at Chennai yesterday. The images of the dog found alive became viral on Facebook and the team that discovered her has not had a moment of peace. Not that it matters to any of them.

The team comprises a group of animal activists from the city headed by Antony Rubin, Jennifer and Shravan Krishnan.

Shravan Krishnan, who runs Hotel for Dogs in Chennai and Bengaluru, has taken the responsibility of keeping Bhadra under his careful attention. He says that after the surgery today, veterinarians have also confirmed that Bhadra is indeed the dog that was flung from the roof in the infamous viral video. Bhadra has suffered fractures in her right leg and her spine and will definitely make a complete recovery in 4-6 weeks.

She will walk again.

While Bhadra gets all the love and affection she needs to recover, Shravan is busy coping with the other challenges that this case has brought with it. "We all fought so hard and so long for three days to get the police to file a case and get the culprits arrested and all that they had to do was to appear in court for less than an hour before a judge, request a bail and leave," he tells Indiatimes over the phone.

Disappointed but not about to give up, Krishnan says justice will be delayed. "The courts will remains closed for the next four days as tomorrow is Eid followed by the weekend.

"Our next chance to contest the bail will only come in four days"

While the animal activists have been grateful in their social media posts to the Chennai police for the action they took, Krishnan does say that it took a considerable amount of coaxing. "We had to put pressure on them to file the complaint. Some of us approached the Police Commissioner through our contacts to ensure that action was taken against the culprits," he tells us.

"We followed the complaints filed by the neighbours with the police and discovered Bhadra. We were so excited with the kind of social media support we got for Bhadra and were sure that the archaic rules against animal abuse in India might finally be revised after this incident," Krishnan added.

It is a "Black Day" for Animal Welfare in India, he says.

Disappointed by today's development, he assures us that he will not be giving up. He has been actively posting updates about Bhadra on social media for the benefit of her steadily growing fan-following, giving interviews, planning the next course of action, connecting with other activists and interacting with the police.

Meanwhile, Bhadra is eating normally and is still wagging her tail. "She is still in a state of considerable shock and is not being difficult to treat, and recovery is expected to take 4-6 weeks as she is still quite young; in fact, not more than 5 months old. She will continue to be treated by the veterinarians at TANUVAS," he shared.
