The police vehicle transporting Aftab Poonawala, suspected of murdering his live-in partner, was attacked by armed people on Monday, just outside the Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini, where he was scheduled to undergo a polygraph.
Later in the evening, the police vehicle was stopped after being overtaken by a car. Some witnesses say that a small group of people got out of the car and started beating up the van that Poonawala was in.
The vehicle was chased away as the two attackers were detained, the police said; the incident occurred at around 6:45 p.m. Videos of the alleged incident surfaced online, showing a police officer pulling his service pistol and dispersing the attackers, who were armed with swords.
One video shows the assailants saying they are from a right-wing organization and that they only attacked Poonawala to get revenge for Shraddha Walkar's brutal murder.
