Mumbai Police On The Lookout For This Bartender For Running Away With Patron Debit/Credit Cards
The police are on the lookout for a man identified only as Chandra Shekhar, who has cheated patrons of at least nine bars while working there as waiter. The cops said that Chandra Shekhar would target such bars that have a regular clientele, and the moment a patron would give out his debit or credit card PIN to settle the bill, he would escape with the card, withdraw as much money as he could.
Here's yet another reason to not reveal your debit/credit card PIN. Several bars and restaurants across Mumbai have issued internal circulars, warning against hiring a man who would escape with their patrons' debit/credit cards while waiting tables at these establishments.

The establishments that have filed complaints against Chandra Shekhar are Deepa Bar & Restaurant in Ghatkopar, Mamta Bar & Restaurant in Mulund, Mahesh Lunch Home and Bar in Kurla, Mangesh Bar & Restaurant in Dombivali, Swagat Bar & Restaurant in Vakola, Vishwavihar Bar & Restaurant at Cotton Green, Supriya Bar & Restaurant at Grant Road, and two bars in Thane whose owners didn't want their eateries' names in print.
The cops suspect Chandra Shekhar has stolen at least Rs 3 lakh from the patrons of these nine bars.
The Gamdevi Police, who are investigating the complaints, said that the accused was not only constantly changing his location, he was also using different SIM cards. "He could have stolen from more people," an officer from Gamdevi Police Station said.
"We have sent an alert to all bars across the city. His modus operandi suggests he works at a particular bar only for a few days, and the establishment managers know very little about him," the officer said.

The police's assessment was confirmed by Neeraj Shetty, the owner of Supriya Bar at Grant Road. "He worked at our establishment for barely three days. He stole Rs 45,000 from one of our regular customers' account. Most of our regular customers trust our staff and give out their card PIN numbers to settle the bill. This customer of ours was cheated on August 25 and we have filed a police complaint," Shetty said.
Shetty said that the cops filed a complaint only after the zone's assistant police commissioner intervened, and he found out that a few days earlier, Chandra Shekhar had been working at Cotton Green's Vishwavihar Bar, where he stole Rs 60,000 from a patron's account.
