The Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank crisis claimed another life on October 14 after 51-year-old Sanjay Gulati died of cardiac arrest after returning home from a protest against the PMC Bank scam.
Gulati's family has Rs 90 lakh held up in the Oshiwara branch. He is survived by wife and two young children.
Society secretary Yatindra Pal said," Sanjay and his father CL Gulati worked at Jet Airways. First Sanjay lost his job, now his savings. He had no history of serious ailments. He only had a thyroid problem. On Monday, he attended a protest rally by depositors, where he saw many agitated and crying. Sanjay returned around 3.30pm and slept. Around 4.45pm, he asked his wife to serve food. As he was eating, he slumped and died. We are all shocked."
Reports suggest that Gulati was an employee of Jet Airways, which suspended operations in April, and was fired subsequently.
Gulati required money on a regular basis as his son was specially-abled and therefore, a substantial amount of money was required constantly for his treatment.
On Monday, Gulati had gone to attend a protest at the Killa Court in the Fort area. Close to 200 PMC Bank account holders protested outside the Mumba Court.
He returned home and asked wife for food. Gulati suffered a stroke while eating and died.

On Monday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) enhanced PMC Bank's withdrawal limit to Rs 40,000 per account from Rs 25,000 per account earlier for six months.
On September 23, RBI clamped down on PMC Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 1,000 per customer, which led to a lot of distress and criticism.
Another account holder of the troubled Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank, Fattomal Punjabi, died of a heart attack on October 15. This is the second such death of a depositor with the bank within 24 hours.
