Proud Moment For Rajasthan Truck Driver Whose Sons Cracked NEET And JEE (A)

Mangnaram Bishnoi, a long-haul truck driver, is rushing to Kota to see his sons ¡ª Mahendra Kumar Bishnoi and Shyam Sunder Bishnoi ¡ª who have cleared NEET and JEE-Advanced, respectively, this year.

Bishnoi, 45, has not seen his sons since June 1, 2017. A resident of Kanasar village in Phalodi tehsil of Jodhpur, Bishnoi can count the number of days he has spent with his family throughout his life due to his job. Most of his salary goes towards interest payment on the multiple loans he took to fund the coaching of his sons in Kota, but is now proud to be called the father of a doctor and an engineer.

Mahendra & Shyam slogged to crack the exam in their first attempt, not visiting their village for a year. Mahendra recalled how they had borrowed clothes, utensils & bags to go to Kota. They are still in Kota for counselling. They want to meet their father before they leave for their respective colleges.

Repaying dad¡¯s loans duo¡¯s top priority

The first and foremost priority of the duo is to repay the loans and make proper arrangements for their father so that he doesn¡¯t have to drive a truck anymore.

Bishnoi recalls the time and date when he received the news about his sons¡¯ achievements, both in a span of six days. ¡°On June 4 evening, I received a call from Mahendra informing his rank of 5,140 in NEET. The fatigue of driving 800km non-stop vanished with the news.

The second came after six days when I was struggling in a long jam at the Delhi-Haryana border. This one was from Shyam telling me he had got 15,949th rank in JEE-Advanced. He told me the rank would get him admission in any top NIT. His rank in an exam contested by 13 lakh students has filled me with pride,¡± Bishnoi said on the phone from Transport Nagar in Sardarsahar, Jodhpur.

Success hasn¡¯t come easily to the two brothers. ¡°Both expressed interest in preparing for medical and engineering in Class XII. I started taking longer and difficult routes in order to earn more money. But, unfortunately, I fell way short of the amount required for their coaching and stay in Kota. Taking multiple loans from moneylenders, apart from selling some jewellery, was the only way to arrange funds,¡± said Bishnoi, whose eldest son delayed his BEd as their father couldn¡¯t afford to pay for the education of all three together.
