Kashmirs living outside the state, mostly the students, are facing the backlash following the terror attack on the CRPF convoy last week, which killed 44 jawans.
Across many north Indian cities many students have either been attacked or harassed by rabid groups, forcing them to flee or go underground.
"Just the fact that one is a Kashmiri, irrespective of his ideology or leanings, is enough to put one's life to risk. It is happening across the country. Kashmiri students are being harassed and hounded, be it Dehradun, Ambala or Bangalore. We really fear for our security here too," A Kashmiri student from Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia, who did not wish to be identified told PTI.

There are also reports about educational institutions asking students to leave or remain inside.
Amid the protests by ABVP, VHP, and Bajrang Dal, two colleges in Dehradun have reportedly agreed not to admit Kashmiri students from the next academic year.

Dr Aslam Siddiqui, principal of BFIT, has also written to students union president, saying that action will be taken against Kashmiri student found engaged in any anti-national activity.
Condemning the targeting of Kashmiri students, Rashid Pahelwan, a member of Dehradun zila panchayat from Lakshmipur told The Times of India that "They travelled hundreds of miles to study in our city ... I felt that the entire student population from Kashmir shouldn't be targeted because of a few people."
Many including some prominent political voices have also expressed fear that targeting students will only result in further alienating Kashmiris.
By attacking them, terrorising them & forcing them to find shelter they are being told there is no place for them outside the valley & no future in the mainland.

Inhuman. They wont defeat Pakistan by hounding Kashmiris. But they dont realise, they are walking into a trap thats been set for them. Akin to puppets being controlled by a string. U punish innocent Kashmiris who will want to avenge the humiliation. It sets off a vicious cycle. https://t.co/hAo2Pl61AG
