Unsuspecting, the couple handed them their travel documents. The cons, in the meantime, emptied their handbag which had $7,000 in cash. As the cons walked off and got into a Honda City parked a few yards away, the couple realised the money was missing. They immediately called police, but in vain. Based on Shukuro¡¯s complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC at Sadar police station.
Police claimed to have recovered footage from the CCTV cameras installed nearby, and suspect involvement of a gang that had been active in the city for the past few months and cheated a number of foreigners following a similar modus operandi.
¡°We have got some vital clues. We are on the job and the accused will be behind bars soon,¡± said ASI Shiv Kumar, the investigating officer.
