No evidence against Aryan
The development came after Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday gave a clean chit to Aryan Khan, in last year's 'drugs on cruise' case. Officials of the NCB, which filed its charge sheet in a Mumbai court, said Aryan Khan and five others had not been named due to a "lack of sufficient evidence".
NCB chief SN Pradhan said, ¡°We have gone by the principle of evidence.¡±
"We found physical and circumstantial evidence against 14 persons and against six there was insufficient evidence," Pradhan said in Delhi.
"We considered all facts found during the initial investigation and found no concrete evidence,¡± he said.
Aryan Khan had spent 22 days in jail before he was grantred bail in the case.
Spotlight on Sameer Wankhede
Arrests in the case were made by the NCB zonal office under its former director Sameer Wankhede and his team.
On November 6 last year, the NCB headquarters removed Wankhede from the probe and transferred the case and five more from Mumbai to a Delhi-based SIT formed under its deputy director general (operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh.
During the course of the probe in the case, Wankhede had faced several allegations including attempted extortion from Shah Rukh Khan.
Sameer Wankhede had skeletons in closet
Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik had made other allegations against Wankhede including that he had submitted a fake caste certificate to get a government job.
Malik had claimed that as per the birth certificate, Wankhede is a born Muslim but allegedly appeared for the civic services (UPSC) exams through a reserved category and became an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer.
Later it also emerged that Wankhede, though ineligible, had secured the permit for the bar in 1997.
Malik had alleged that Wankhede owned a bar Hotel Sadguru in Navi Mumbai for which he got a license when he was 17-year-old.
In February this year, an FIR was registered against Wankhede for forging age and documents to obtain a bar licence.
Wankhede, who was on deputation with the Narcotics Control Bureau, was repatriated to his parent department, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, on completion of his tenure in January.
