Meet Delhi's Poorest Candidate Kushma Devi
Kushma Devi, a 37-year-old domestic help was more than surprised when BJP-Akali candidate Manjinder Sirsa declared assets of over Rs. 100 crore.
Earning mere Rs. 3000 per month, Kushma Devi has never seen money beyond few hundred rupees.

Kushma, who lives in Nanakpura¡¯s Shri Ram JJ Slum has entered the election fray as an independent candidate by borrowing Rs. 100 to buy the form. If she is elected, then her agenda would be to improve Nanakpura¡¯s pathetic conditions. She wants to provide the residents with basic facilities like sanitation and proper water supply.
Kushma¡¯s symbol for the elections is the torch. When asked what if she doesn¡¯t win, she humbly replies, ¡°even if I don't win, at least, I will know I tried to make our lives better."
The rumours are making the rounds that BJP has supported her to file the nomination as she can cut into the Congress and AAP votes in this Valmiki-majority. However, not many know that she is contesting elections. Devi says it¡¯s because she cannot campaign because most of her time goes in working as domestic help. She has taken a week off to campaign and reach out to people. Apart from her slum, she will campaign in Ambedkar Basti of RK Puram constituency. If she wins, then her four kids will reunite with her, as now they are away pursuing their dreams away from the slums.
