Amidst the blistering summer temperatures gripping India, a thief in Uttar Pradesh faced a peculiar dilemma: riches or relief from the sweltering temperatures with an air conditioner? This seemingly simple choice led to a hilariously unexpected incident.
Sleep over theft
On Sunday (June 2), a man entered a house in the Indiranagar area of Lucknow to commit theft.
The house belonged to Dr. Sunil Pandey, who was away in Varanasi at the time. Finding the house empty, the man opened the front gate and broke in.
Once inside, he noticed an air conditioner in the drawing area, switched it on, and comfortably lay down to sleep with his head on a cushion.
Good sleep, especially for those without homes, is more precious than riches - so no wonder the thief's choice.
Dr. Pandey's neighbors noticed the open gate and alerted him, prompting him to inform the police.
Upon arrival, the police found the man sleeping peacefully with the air conditioner running.
DCP North Zone R Vijay Shankar stated that the man had entered the house with the intention of theft but ended up falling asleep.
Heat hits India
Recent reports indicate that India experienced an alarming temperature spike, reaching a record high of 52.3 degrees Celsius, although the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) later clarified it was an error.

Nonetheless, the country has been grappling with severe heatwaves this summer season.
As early as April, the IMD had issued warnings of an exceptionally hot summer, forecasting an increased number of heat wave days.
Many states are currently enduring intense heat waves, with temperatures surpassing 50 degrees Celsius in certain areas.
Meanwhile, there is a glimmer of relief as the Southwest Monsoon made its onset in Kerala and gradually spread to most parts of the Northeast on Wednesday.
