This American Lady Sang Bollywood Songs To Make An Autowallah Use The Meter While Taking Her To Charminar

If you are used to waiting by a busy road for an auto in any of the major Indian cities, then we are sure you will also be used to the tantrums thrown by these fellows when asked to use the fare-meter.

Well to the rescue of the millions of such poor commuters comes this American professor with her incredible new way of shaming such auto-guys.

In this video, which was posted on Youtube last night, Christine Fair, who is assistant professor with Georgetown University in Washington DC, is seen singing to her Hyderbadi 'autowallah'; that too in un-adulterated Hindi.

She opens the video with a brief introduction which lets us know that she had hailed the auto to go to Charminar and he has conveniently refused to use the meter. Instead of leaving or arguing fruitlessly, Christine informed the auto guy that it's her off day and she is more than willing to spend the entire day sitting in his auto while also trying to entertain any potential customers.

All the while she is speaking in clear Hindi. She then delivers two spot-on versions of classic songs 'Mujhe Need Naa Aaye, Chein Naa Aaye' (Dil, 1990) and 'Yeh Zindagi Usi Ki Hai' (Anarkali, 1953) which finally shames the driver into driving ahead with the meter down.

She ends with 'Hum Jaa Rahe Hain, Meherbaani Ji! Smile!'

While most Indians would have just given up or left the auto to wait for another one, Christine, whose bio clearly states that She Can Cause Trouble In Multiple Languages does show us that there is always a better way and that knowing a foreign language is always better and fun!

She has also confessed that she has perfected this art over 2 decades and that she has used this technique in many Indian cities and it has worked everytime. Though she is doubtful whether it will work anywhere else in south asia.
