UP Minister Thinks Petrol Prices Is Not Affecting Most Indians, He Believes 95% Don't Use It
UP sports minister Upendra Tiwari claimed that the petrol price hike is affecting only a small portion of Indians. As for petrol and diesel prices, there are now a handful of people who use four-wheelers and need petrol. Currently, 95 per cent people in the society do not need petrol," he said.
In the run-up to the 2014 general elections, controlling the petrol-diesel prices was one of the several promises the BJP had made. But in the seven years that followed, the BJP has failed to live up to its promise and the petrol-diesel prices now have almost doubled from then.
And the BJP knows that there is growing anger among the public over the skyrocketing prices that are destabilising many family budgets.
Yet, BJP leaders are not able to give any reasonable justifications and their excuses often end up being bizarre and illogical.
A minister from Uttar Pradesh is the latest to join the long list of BJP leaders who have tried to play down or justify the petrol-diesel price hike.
Handful of people
UP sports minister Upendra Tiwari on Thursday claimed that the petrol price hike is affecting only a small portion of Indians.
As for petrol and diesel prices, there are now a handful of people who use four-wheelers and need petrol. Currently, 95 per cent people in the society do not need petrol," he said.
Tiwari also claimed that compared to 2014, the income of people has doubled.
"If you compare per capita income before the Modi and Yogi governments, you will find that it has more than doubled," he said.

Tripling when petrol cross Rs 200
Just a few days ago Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita has reportedly said that tripling would be allowed when petrol price rises to Rs. 200 per litre in the state.
¡°Tripling in two-wheelers will be allowed after fuel price rises to Rs. 200 per liter in the state and that also after taking permission from the government to allow three persons in one bike. They can even seek permission to manufacture three-seater in two-wheeler vehicles,¡± he said.
Blame it on free vaccines
Recently, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli had claimed that the money for the free vaccines comes from the taxes that the central government collects.
"Fuel prices aren't high but include the tax levied. You must've taken a free vaccine, where will the money come from? You haven't paid the money, this is how it was collected," he said.
Taliban
Last month Arvind Bellad, a BJP MLA from Karnataka had blamed the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan behind the global fuel supply problems and skyrocketing prices of gas, petrol and diesel in India.
Cycling is good for health
In June, Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar had said that cycling is the solution for rising fuel prices, and it has additional benefits.
"Do we ride a bicycle to a vegetable market? It will keep us healthy and keep pollution away," he said in Bhopal while answering a question about fuel prices.
