'What in the Rameshwaram are these prices': Woman shocked at 'dirt-cheap' dosa, idli at Bengaluru restaurant
Sahili Totale's viral X post reveals Bengaluru's Taaza Thindi restaurant serving dosa and idli at surprisingly low prices, sparking comparisons to Rameshwaram Cafe and other restaurants offering the same food items at higher costs.
Prices today are vastly different from what they were 10-20 years ago, with inflation driving costs up significantly. So, imagine the surprise of a woman who went to eat dosa at a South Indian restaurant and found the prices to be, well, dirt cheap.
X user Sahili Totale shared a picture on X of a plate of dosa, alongside another of idli and vada, with the caption, "What in the Rameshwaram are these prices."
She revealed the location as Bengaluru's Taaza Thindi restaurant in Jayanagar, where a single idli and vada cost Rs 10, and a masala dosa is priced at Rs 20.
In her comparison, she mentioned Rameshwaram Cafe, a popular quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain in Bengaluru, known for its South Indian delicacies like Ghee Podi idli, Lemon idli, Venpongal, Puliyogare, and filter coffee.
Founded by Raghavendra Rao, who has over 20 years of food industry experience, Rameshwaram Cafe has a strong reputation.
Rameshwaram Cafe recently served South Indian classics for high tea and dinner on the day of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's widely publicised wedding. The restaurant also catered to their mehendi ceremony the week before and was involved in the pre-wedding celebrations on a luxury cruise in Europe in May.

The post sparked a flurry of comments, with many sharing their experiences.
One user remarked, "You guys are so lucky the prices are insane. In Goa, we get overpriced South Indian food in so-called new age QSR outlets. Dosa is Rs 120- 150 and tastes like crap."
Another loyal customer said, "I'm a Taaza Thindi stan for the past 4-5 years," while someone else commented, "This is way better than Rameshwaram."
Others expressed disbelief and nostalgia over the low prices, with one saying, "Wow! This is what I used to pay 15 years back in Mumbai. Wish they came with this pricing or even marginally higher in Mumbai."
Another from Delhi noted, "This is dirt cheap; in NCR, normal restaurants like Haldiram's sell masala dosa for approximately Rs 250."
Some found it hard to believe, with comments like, "Dollars mein hoga," and "I have paid 12 dollars for idli... This is insane."
