Interview jitters are a common experience for most people who have faced the pressure of a job interview. Typically nerve-racking and stressful, interviews can often be a rollercoaster of emotions. However, one woman recently shared a unique twist on the typical interview experience¡ªher latest job interview wasn't just nerve-racking or stressful; it was downright bizarre.
When 31-year-old Lauren Hamilton arrived for her interview for an office coordinator position, she felt confident.
Having already aced a phone interview with a recruiter, she didn't foresee any issues. However, her optimism quickly waned as Hamilton, recounted to Newsweek that the entire interview raised red flags.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, Hamilton sensed irritation from the moment the interviewer appeared. Without a proper introduction, the interviewer immediately criticised Hamilton for wearing a sleeveless top that exposed her shoulders.
"When I first arrived, everything seemed fine as I waited in the front," Hamilton recalled. "But when she saw me, her facial expression changed, and her first words to me were about my shoulders showing. No greeting, no introduction¡ªnothing."
"I instantly felt a very old-fashioned vibe from her, as if it was solely her opinion that my attire was inappropriate," Hamilton continued.

"Then she proceeded to ask me directly how I handle workplace drama and toxicity, which made me think they may have issues in those areas and wanted to see how I would respond."
As the interview concluded and Hamilton extended her hand for a handshake, the interviewer surprised her by saying, "I don't give consent for you to touch me."
Feeling confused and embarrassed after leaving, Hamilton questioned whether she had somehow been in the wrong. After being out of the workforce for several years, she wondered if things had changed more than she realised.
Hamilton turned to TikTok to process the experience of what she described as "the weirdest job interview ever."
Among the responses, one person noted that while a sleeveless shirt might be considered unprofessional, they wouldn't have addressed it directly, preferring to make a mental note instead, while another pointed out the common practice of shaking hands after an interview. Another comment suggested interpreting the interviewer's behavior as a warning sign and being thankful for not landing the job there.
