20-Year-Old Neeraj Chopra Makes History At Asian Games By Winning Gold In Javelin Throw
Neeraj Chopra became the eighth Indian to win a gold medal in the tournament on Monday in Javelin throw with an attempt of 88.03 m, a new record for the country.
India is grabbing eyeballs as its sports fraternity continues to put up a spectacular show at the Asian game's tournament.
The tournament is taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 18 to September 02. With seven gold, twelve silver and twenty bronze medals to its name, India is rightly proving the 'Energy of Asia' spirit in synchronization with the tournament's motto.

With this Chopra becomes the first Indian Javelin thrower to win a gold at the 18th edition of the tournament. While Chopra was able to seize the gold medal only in his third attempt, he broke his previous best record of 87.43 m. The Indian track and field athlete who is also the world junior record holder of 86.48, has been in tremendous form this season as has consistently crossed the 85m mark, The Hindu reported.

Chopra seemed confident from the beginning of the game even though Chinese Taipei's Cheng Chao Tsun was expected to give him a tough competition. However, he was unable to cross the 80m mark.
Meanwhile, India's Neena Varakil too won a silver medal in long jump. Her best jump came at 6.51 metres in the fourth attempt which was phenomenal enough to fetch her a silver medal.
