Just after making a sensational return to Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo entered the history books during the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers. He finally shattered Ali Daei's world record by becoming the all-time top scorer in men's international football, as per TNN.
Ronaldo scored twice to help Portugal register a crucial win over the Republic of Ireland. He scored two late goals in Portugal's victory.
After breaking Irish hearts with a record-breaking 89th-minute equaliser, Ronaldo netted the winner in injury time to make sure Portugal bag all three points at home. Ronaldo's opener for the UEFA Euro 2016 winners helped him surpass Iranian Ali Daei's incredible record tally of 109 goals in men's international football. Nicknamed CR7, the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar has now scored 111 goals for Portugal in his glittering career.
"I'm so happy, not only for the record but for the special moments with two goals at the end. It was so tough, but we have to appreciate what the team did, they and the fans believed until the end of the game," Ronaldo said after leading Portugal to a thrilling 2-1 win against Ireland in the World Cup qualifying encounter at home.
