Vinesh Phogat, You may be disqualified, but you are already a winner. Of course, a medal would have been awesome, but your story is more awesome, and there is nothing that can take away from you.

"It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women¡¯s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh¡¯s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand," stated the Indian Olympic Association.
Under the rules of the United World Wrestling (UWW), Vinesh will now be placed last in the standings for the event.
Vinesh Phogat had made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final of an Olympic Games. She achieved this milestone by defeating Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman 5-0 in the semifinal. Her journey to the final included a stunning victory over world No. 1 Yui Susaki of Japan, a four-time World Champion and Tokyo Olympics gold medallist who had remained undefeated in 95 international matches.
Earlier in the competition, Vinesh also secured a hard-fought win against Ukraine's Oksana Vasylivna Livach, emerging victorious with a 7-5 scoreline in her second bout of the day. This was her third appearance at the Olympics, following her participation in the 2016 Rio Games, where an injury cut short her medal hopes, and the 2020 Tokyo Games, where she was defeated in the 53kg quarterfinals.
Vinesh Phogat¡¯s career is marked by numerous achievements, including being the first Indian woman to win gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. The disqualification, therefore, comes as a significant blow to her Olympic aspirations and the hopes of her supporters.
